  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of accounting duties according to existing procedures, methods and systems. Receives, sorts, and proofs accounting documents, posts appropriate entries to ledger accounts, and performs other accounting and clerical duties.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Process incoming and outgoing wires.
  • Balance assigned general ledger accounts daily and/or monthly.
  • Research balancing issues for branch teller capture, ATM and other systems.
  • Backup for cash account reconciliation process.
  • Post student loan, credit card and business loan payments.
  • Process bi-weekly cash orders.
  • Post monthly credit card charge-offs and consumer loans.
  • Backup Accounts Payable function.
  • Responsible for the timely remittance of all member checks returned to the credit union for collection.
  • All accounting functions and records maintained in a timely and orderly manner in accordance with prescribed standards. Exception items attended to promptly corrected and posted daily. All transactions performed correctly and documented as appropriate to nature of transaction
  • Backup support as needed for duties associated with check processing and ACH processing including but not limited to: posting rejected or exception items, preparing and balancing returned checks, inputting stop payments and posting appropriate fee vouchers.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by team leader.
  • Becomes/is an advocate of The Michigan First Way, supporting all facets of it, including complete fulfillment of Our Promise, 5 STARS Service, SOLVE IT and our ISMs. Fosters a positive demeanor and image through professional representation in all contacts with both, team members and members. Consistently reflects and displays each of our “ISMs” in daily job performance, as well as in all business interactions while executing on our goals and initiatives. Learns and utilizes EMEC (Every Member’s Experience Counts) in day-to-day responsibilities when communicating with members only.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. A Bachelor’s degree in business related discipline is preferred.
  • One to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to members, team leader, and other team members of the organization.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and other standard office equipment such as fax machine, photocopier, ten key, telephone and laser printer. Spreadsheet application knowledge is required.
  • Excellent mathematical skills, accuracy and basic knowledge of bookkeeping for use in maintaining accounting records is required.
  • Above average interpersonal skills to represent the Credit Union in a positive and courteous manner when dealing with members and all levels of team members.
  • Strong listening skills to effectively determine member needs and resolve member and team member problems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of banking and accounting regulations.
