The Accounting Manager is the right-hand person to the Controller. They are responsible for managing the general accounting function, including transactional accuracy, regular compilation of financial reports, compliance with tax filings, and overall development of the Accounting Department. This person will be working closely with other departments resolving issues and putting accountings best foot forward.

Responsibilities

  • Manage highly professional staff of six employees
  • Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day accounting activities including accounts receivable and invoicing, accounts payable, cash receipts / disbursements, fixed assets, and general accounting
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods and principles
  • Manage month-end / year-end close process and year-end audit preparation; Perform complete accounts analysis / reconciliation to ensure the integrity of financial statements
  • Coordinate and disseminate department and company budget detail for financial forecasts and budgeting
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Manage treasury functions including maintaining good relationship with bankers and administer online banking platform
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Supervise and manage the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manners
  • Manage and/or participate in projects affecting accounting including system upgrades, conversions, implementation of new products and new business requirements
  • Maintain external relationships with Bank and CPA firm
  • Review and Evaluate Oracle Processes and Procedures

Qualifications

  • Capacity to understand the Preneed insurance industry and correlated accounting transactions
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Experience with creating financial statements and with general ledger functions and the month- end/year-end close process
  • Ability to meet deadline, excellent time management skills
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations
  • Able to direct, supervise, and mentor staff
  • Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality

Education and/or Experience:

  • CPA license is preferred but not required
  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance or other related field
  • 5-8 years of relevant accounting experience preferred
  • 3-5 years management experience
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion or other ERP system preferred
