Job Description/Summary

(This position requires an employee to work remotely and also have the flexibility to work in the Corporate office from time to time. Our Corporate office is located in Redwood City, CA which which means all candidates applying to this position must be local.)

The Accounting Associate will be responsible to perform various corporate accounting functions and oversight as well as support for accounting and financial reporting. A successful candidate should have experience with accounting and financial software and should stay up to date with current trends. Expert-level knowledge of working with spreadsheets is crucial. This position is ideal for an ambitious, experienced professional who seeks to join a growing firm. This position will also provide an opportunity for independent initiative and judgement to improve accounting procedures, processes, financial reporting and growth in a corporate accounting environment.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Assist in month-end close, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation.
  • Update the chart of accounts regularly in the accounting software to keep the regular financial reports updated.
  • Ability to manage timely and accurate accounts payable processing, payments to vendors, and coordinate various A/P activities and accounts receivable.
  • Assist in maintaining and reviewing financial statements of the entity and in preparing the financial statements as per the US GAAP Accounting standards.
  • Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Develop and distribute monthly and quarterly metric-based reports to evaluate sales performance.
  • Develop, maintain and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.

Co-ordinate with portfolio companies to gather the information pertaining to regulatory filings, verify the information for accuracy and complete the filings in a timely manner.

  • Maintain investment dashboards on a continuous basis to track the financial position of the investments at any given point.
  • Co-ordinate with internal stakeholders and develop operating plan presentations on a quarterly basis.
  • Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
  • Coordinate with the tax preparer on a timely basis to ensure proper tax compliance.
  • Other corporate accounting and financial duties as assigned.

  • Excellent understanding of accounting rules and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, finance or any other related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in accounting/ finance.
  • Excellent skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint. Advanced knowledge in Excel understanding concepts of databases, filtering data, use of mathematical, logical, statistical and financial functions a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with accounting systems like QuickBooks, Bill.com.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $31.00 - $36.00 per hour
