Position Summary


This position will be responsible for the programming and implementation of the following programs in the Success Center: 1. College Skills program – Consists of implementation/delivery of all GED 110 classes which provide survival skills for college, delivery of the SAT/ ACT, 2. Academic Recovery Institute (ARI) - programming related to at risk students who are scheduled to be suspended at Livingstone College. ARI programming will provide intrusive academic advising & guidance, college success coaching and life skills mentoring with the goal of reaching Satisfactory Academic Performance (A-SAP). The candidate will work closely with the ARI community tracking their progress, decisions, extra-curricular activities and providing counseling/mentoring throughout the school year to develop relationships that research has shown increase student learning, satisfaction, and success.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and teach GED 110 – College Skills classes. Create a Train-the-Trainer class for all persons teaching GED 110.
  • Partner with Admissions to administer the ACT/ SAT.
  • Regularly develop and implement workshops/webinars, for the Saturday Inspire Sessions and individual/group activities to support the goals, objectives and outcomes of ARI designed to expand the horizons to cultural events, and network building opportunities
  • Meet at least weekly with your advisees as a community and individually for intrusive advisement leading to changes in attitude and behavior related to academic, social and professional issues.
    • Develop advisor/advisee relationship
    • Assist advisees in goal planning, career planning and in the selection of an academic program consistent with their abilities and interests.
    • Interpret and provide rationale for academic policies, procedures, and requirements for retention and persistence at Livingstone College.
  • Teach/review college skills, life skills and professional skills in support of the 10 Holistic College Modules.
  • Provide an appropriate intervention to all alerts received through the Retention Management System and the EAB System.
  • Visit classes first two weeks of every semester and periodically throughout the semester.
  • Attend weekly Family Assembly & Convocations with your Learning Community(s) taking attendance and creating follow-up activity to summarize content of the program.
  • Refer and inform students when academic, attitudinal, attendance, or other personal problems require intervention by other campus professionals to include tutoring for all repeat courses.
  • Refer and inform students of special services available to them for remediation, academic assistance, and other needs.
  • Keep advising office hours.
  • Distribute PROGRESS REPORTS to students to collect instructor input as needed
  • PRESENT CERTIFICATES/AWARDS TO HIGHLIGHT OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT.
  • Support the Director of Summer Bridge, Bridge & Beyond, and Fall Bridge with an emphasis on monitoring programs.


Education/ Experience


What you will need to be successful!


  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Experience in counseling, mentoring, tutoring/teaching in higher education
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Experience with EAB & Jenzabar beneficial
  • Committed to working with under prepared college students.
  • Must speak Standard English and have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
