Job Description

Job Title: Quality Control Coordinator/Lead Dockworker

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operation Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Location: Atlanta, GA

SUMMARY The primary focus of the Quality Control Coordinator/Lead Dockworker is to work under the direction of the Dock Supervisor and the Manager of Quality and Loss Prevention to ensure established company work instructions are followed safely and efficiently. This position focuses on maintaining the highest quality freight handling practices to ensure our customers receive their shipped items in the same condition they are tendered. The QC assists with the inspection of incoming and outbound loads to ensure load quality meets company standards and communicating any concerns to the on-duty Supervisor or Manager.

Much of the time spent in this position involves working on the dock floor assisting with the completion of loading and unloading. The Quality Coordinator is responsible to monitor the adherence to work instructions and is empowered to make immediate corrections to non-compliance. The Quality Coordinator is expected to lead by example, demonstrate proper work methods, coach and train dock workers to Daylight’s standards of quality.

As a Quality Coordinator, you have been identified as a leader in quality. You must be familiar with all work instructions for the functions performed during your shift. A Quality Coordinator must be reliable, attentive to detail, hard working with a focus on established production goals, safety minded and ready to take the extra step to ensure the highest quality in all functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-

· Prepare the work area, ensure all tools are in designated areas.

· Inspect trailer(s) prior to loading. i.e. ensure it is free of debris, nails, holes, etc.

· Monitoring and ensure the proper equipment is being used for freight movement.

· All safety procedures are being followed.

· Monitor & ensure proper housekeeping functions are followed during the unloading process.

· Monitor unloading/loading methods to allow for safe and exception free delivery.

· Oversee and ensure proper and uniform weight distribution throughout loading process.

· Monitor and make certain recoup practices are followed. Shipments are to be presented to the consignee in the same way they were tendered to Daylight.

· Oversee proper completion of all required documentation.

· Monitor and ensure “Load Quality” communication is being followed in accordance with work instructions.

· Load and unload freight on trailers using a motorized forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with state and federal DOT guidelines. Use various loading techniques, such as loading tight or cross loading.

· Transport self and/or freight continuously throughout the service center in a forklift on non-forgiving surfaces.

· Utilize Dock Yard Management System to consistently monitor freight shipment locations throughout the service center.

· Read and interpret shipping labels. Familiarity with, and in some cases ability to complete the various forms utilized in freight movement such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, overage/damage movement reports and exception forms.

· Hand load, rewrap or stack freight as necessary.

· Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g. pallets, straps, rope).

· Frequent contact with service center personnel; fast-pace and deadline oriented.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – High school diploma, general education degree or equivalent

LANGUAGE SKILLS -Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must possess analytical skills and ability to think quickly.

OTHER SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS- Computer literate, PC and mainframe; working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Must be able to type. Ten-key required. Effective time management skills. Achievement oriented/goal directed.
