Tuesday-Saturday hours
Job Summary: Assists the provider as assigned for the patients’ needs and provide maximum care in a safe environment. Maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
Qualifications/Reporting:
Required minimum education: Graduate of Vocational Nursing School and licensed to practice in the State of Texas.
Required minimum experience: Nursing experience in a clinic or medical office setting preferred. CPR certification required.
Required skills (if applicable): Effective oral and written communication skills. Leadership and management abilities.
Required license/certification: Licensed Vocational Nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Texas. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support is required.
Job reports to (title of the position): Chief Nurse Officer, Clinic Coordinator and Clinic Director

Job Responsibility / Core Duty:

  • Assure you have the correct patient with two identifiers with every interaction with each patient.
  • Takes and records blood pressure readings, temperature, heart rate, respiration, O2 saturation, weight and height. On infant’s length measurements.
  • Enters patient history both medical and surgical, family history, current medications, allergies, procedures and medications administered in office all in the EHR.
  • Scan documents into the patients EHR.
  • Prior authorization for some needed medications.
  • Address patient phone calls and return calls as needed. Inform patients of results and or instructions per providers’ request.
  • Assists provider and prepares patients for various types of examinations and procedures.
  • As directed by a provider administers specific drugs or medications either orally, topically or by injection and observes patient for reactions then document in EHR.
  • Instructs patients and family members regarding treatments and follow-up care.
  • Applies or changes dressings as requested.
  • Assists provider with minor surgical procedures performed in the clinic.
  • Perform EKG, vision, hearing, and administers breathing treatments.
  • Perform ear irrigations, splints/ace wraps and suture/staple removal.
  • Skills Competencies.
  • Performs basic life support skills in emergency situations.
  • Assists in implementation of patient’s plan of care and education.
  • Informs patients of test results as requested by provider.
  • Calls prescriptions and orders as directed by providers.
  • Assists with patient health education.
  • Perform CLIA Waived test and controls and another test as directed by provider. (Urinalysis, HCG, Strep, Flu, Culture Swabs, TB, Blood Draws, Glucose, Etc.)
  • Maintains patient drug sample log.
  • Collects necessary information from patient to obtain medical records from another facility for continuum of care.
  • Keep provider and director informed of the patient care needs.
  • Promotes harmonious relationships among providers, patients, department heads, employees and the public in general.
  • Supports administrative policies established by the clinic.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment.
