Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,200 individuals every day across seven campuses in Charlotte (up to 14 campuses in COVID). Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.
POSITION SUMMARY:
ROOF ABOVE owns and operates The Rise on Clanton an 88-unit apartment building providing permanent supportive housing to men and women who have experienced chronic homelessness. The Rise on Clanton follows a “housing first/harm reduction” approach. The program has an annual budget of approximately $1 million and a staff of 6. Staff roles include property management, case management, nursing, and tenant services.
The Director is responsible for overall leadership of The Rise on Clanton, including program operations & development, financial management and compliance, and community partnerships. The Director maintains cohesiveness between all staff, including partner service agency. He/she promotes the mission of Roof Above by maintaining the highest quality of supportive housing and fidelity to the housing first/harm reduction model. The Director must deal in a positive, sensitive, and knowledgeable manner with tenants. The Director must be a decisive leader, a strong internal and external communicator, and an effective representative of the program within the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure a high standard of housing provision and service delivery, with the overall goal of helping each tenant successfully transition to housing and remain stably housed
- Provide leadership which supports, challenges, and inspires staff and tenants
- Provide effective decision-making regarding building, programmatic, staff, and tenant issues
- Supervise SECU The Rise on Clanton staff and provide clinical supervision for staff providing on-site case management
- Foster and maintain a program culture that is aligned with the housing first approach and Roof Above’s mission statement and core values
- Ensure program requirements with grants, contracts, and all Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) are maintained
- Manage fiscal resources well and maintain program records in accordance with a variety of funding and regulatory requirements
- Work with Facilities Management to ensure robust property management, so that staff and tenant resolve housing matters in a timely manner
- Maintain a strong, positive image for the program and establish effective relationships with community partners and external stakeholders
- Facilitate The Rise on Clanton team meetings
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably master’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 8 years’ supervisory and managerial experience
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Significant experience in supportive housing, homeless services, and/or other affordable/subsidized housing; hands on experience in housing first strongly preferred
- Proficiency managing government grants and contracts
- Strong commitment to serving vulnerable populations and to the housing first approach; prior experience implementing housing first programs preferred
- Superior conflict resolution and oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- Knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office) and proficiency using a variety of software applications, including excel and access databases.
