2021 Recruitment and Transitions Intern Position Description

Office of Admissions and Student Success Programs


Brief Position Description:

The Recruitment and New Student Transition Internship is an elite collaborative summer internship position that works with both Student Success Programs and the Office of Admission to create a positive experience for new/prospective students and their guests. The position includes leading new students and family members during Orientation, conducting campus tours to prospective students, planning and executing Welcome Week events, performing general office duties, and completing other tasks as assigned. This position provides students with highly transferable skills and opportunities for connections and collaboration across campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Recruitment and New Student Transition Interns must

  • be an NDSU undergraduate student,
  • attain and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • be registered as a full-time student for Fall 2021,
  • be in good behavioral standing.

  • Adaptable Working Style - must be able to work cohesively within a team and display teamwork and cooperation, while also being able to adapt to working independently and with minimal guidance.

Position Specific Qualifications

  • Project Management & Organization - able to prioritize and manage multiple large projects, while being punctual and dependable, and being detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of NDSU services – is aware of many of the resources that NDSU has to offer students and families
  • Leadership Experiences - should have developed individual leadership skills and abilities based on past involvement and opportunities, preferably within Admissions, New Student Programs, or related Offices.
  • Team Development - has a strong and comprehensive understanding of how to manage, train, and hold team members accountable.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead student and families during Admission events
  • Serve as an Orientation Leader during Orientation days
  • Train and schedule tour guides
  • Conduct campus tours
  • Assist with Admission events planning
  • Conduct outreach to new and prospective students
  • Assist with social media communication
  • Plan and execute Welcome Week events
  • Assist in the development of Welcome Week team training
  • Other duties as assigned


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Earn an hourly wage of $12.50, with increases depending on years of service
  • Free on-campus summer housing is available (Intern is not required to live on-campus).
  • Development of professional and leadership skills
  • Internship credit (if applicable)
