• Strong portfolio of prior UX experience and deliverables: demonstrating impact, including generative and evaluative research, and showing track record of managing and executing large research efforts from start to finish. Must include prior experience with UX for hardware designs.
• 10+ years proven success leading user research projects with demonstrated impact.
• 10+ years of experience with the full range of research methods (qualitative and quantitative, behavioral and attitudinal, with deep expertise in one or more areas) and activities (study design, test creation, moderation, analysis, reporting, etc.).
• Experience working in a collaborative team, partnering closely with product and program management to define the problem space and requirements, and working directly with development teams to drive on implementation on highly technical products
• Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives
• Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver against role responsibilities, working with minimal guidance and direction in a fast-pace environment.

As a Principal UX Researcher for Scout last mile delivery devices, you will own the development of research and insights to inform the design of a category-defining robotic experience. UX Research for Scout spans physical and digital experiences for community members, Amazon customers, and Amazon associates.

You will have expertise in qualitative research methods and comfort with quantitative methods (when to use them, working with teammates on them, managing vendors, etc.). You will collaborate with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to help bring the Scout system to life for customers and communities around the world. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open, collaborative environment.

Key job responsibilities

• Collaborate with designers, product managers, public relations colleagues, and engineers to develop innovative end-to-end solutions that address targeted outcomes. Iteratively evaluate these solutions until outcomes are achieved or hypotheses are proven wrong, while informing and aligning on any trade-offs.
• Establish best practices as well as develop new and innovative ways to test and unearth insights about the wants and needs of customer & community interactions with our robotic systems, from how we talk about Scout through to how people interact with it on a daily basis.
• Apply research methods appropriate to the questions at hand, from generative to evaluative, adapting methods as needed to align organization and product needs.
• Plan & execute consumer and market research to inform the Scout experience vision, choosing when to conduct research in-house and when to leverage external partners.
• Manage external partners to conduct research and develop insights.
• Navigate through ambiguity and obstacles, managing and coordinating multiple project assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Effectively document and communicate insights through writing, presentations, and conversations to build consensus and persuade action based on findings.
• Collaborate with other experience researchers across Amazon to raise the bar for design and align on best practices.
• xperience with accessibility design for hardware.
• Experience coordinating research with product development cycles and software development schedules
• Experience with advanced and/or emerging technologies.
• Experience using rapid prototyping and other creative mechanisms to gather direct feedback early in the product development process.
• Strong bias for action; ability to create a sense of urgency in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Passion for working in environments where navigating ambiguity is the norm.
• Exceptional interpersonal, motivational and communication skills to build trust across teams.
• BA/BS or equivalent degree in psychology, cognitive science, human factors, HCI, HCD, etc.
