The City of Pomona Library has two exciting opportunities available. We are looking for applicants with excellent customer service skills and a desire to make a difference in their community by maintaining the City of Pomona Library. Under supervision, the Library Clerk II position performs a variety of clerical and technical work in support of the various library services and functions including technical services and loan services; and provides general assistance to patrons. The Library Clerk II is an at-will, hourly part-time position. Part-time, hourly positions average 20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) months period. Work hours will be approximately 20 hours per week (3 to 6 hours per shift). Must be available to work between the hours of 12 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as scheduled.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of computer skills, money counting, and public interaction in a library setting.
  • Bilingual Spanish Skills are desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist the public in making the most effective use of the library including answering directional questions.
  • Explain and demonstrate library policies, procedures and facilities to patrons.
  • Operate the circulation desk; check materials in and out.
  • Maintain statistics of library activity; search records and compile reports.
  • Compile overdue material lists; send notices; establish fines in accordance with Library practices; collect fines and charges for overdue and lost materials, postage, and accompanying paperwork, and requested materials from other libraries.
  • Assist patrons in locating materials in the library and placing reserves on materials.
  • Process passport applications which may include taking passport photos, handling passport processing fees and submitting required paperwork.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including computers and cash registers.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to stand for 3 to 6 hours; bend, stoop, lift above your head, and ability to push a cart filled with books.
