Instructor in Motion Pictures

The person in this position will teach beginning through advanced motion picture production courses, mentor students, and support student projects in production. As a production faculty member within a program with an expansive film history and theory curriculum, candidates are expected to be able to connect their creative practice to larger movements and traditions in various film cultures. Minimum Qualifications - MFA or PhD in motion picture production or related field, or Bachelor’s degree in a related field and equivalent professional work experience of at least three years (such as industry experience in film and/or television production/post-production leadership roles)
- A record of creative, scholarly, or professional accomplishments (such as film festival screenings, awards, publications, and honors), evidence of successful pre-professional and/or university-level teaching (such as faculty appointments, leading professional workshops, syllabi, student evaluations, and/or teaching philosophy statement)
- A record of creative work that supports the curricular goals of mentoring students making professional-quality short fiction and/or non-fiction films, and the ability to create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction
- The ability to design and teach foundational production classes in both fiction and non-fiction storytelling, as well as specialized, advanced classes and workshops in a combination of any of the following sub-specialties: directing, producing/production management, post-production technology/workflow, and/or professional development for motion pictures.
- The ability to teach general courses in film history and/or film theory
- A strong background in student-centered approaches to teaching including experience in and/or commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and/or first-generation, BIPOC, queer-identifying and/or disabled university/college students.
Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of Non-Linear Video Editing (NLVE) Software
- Knowledge of Non-Linear Audio Editing (NLAE) Software
Essential Functions and percent of time: 90% Teaching classes, advising and supervising students in Motion Pictures 10% Service for the department, college and university
