Summary of Position (Job Purpose) - Major purpose and functions of the position.
Strategically manage inbound operations and team to ensure the optimal consumption of carrier services, providing the lowest cost to serve while exceeding service level goals
Work closely with the DC Management, Outbound Transportation Operations, Replenishment and Buying staff, Carriers and the Inbound functional teams to optimize inbound transportation while reducing total cost to serve
Principal Duties and Responsibilities -
The primary tasks the associate will perform during his/her work schedule
Effectively communicate and implement all domestic inbound transportation strategies, programs, procedures and policies.
Recommend, develop, and analyze inbound transportation strategies to improve cost and service levels.
Facilitation and implementation of programs with buyers and vendors, to include support of 7 day rule (proper order release notification)
Participation in budget development and budget reporting, to include the monthly P&L
Develop, monitor and act upon daily, weekly and periodic carrier service and cost reports
Continuously research emerging and existing supply chain strategies for incorporation into current DT / FD operational processes
Collaborate with finance determine project ROI’s and budget; ensuring operational strategies and activities occur within the bounds of the annual and monthly budget
Support operational disaster recovery to ensure business continuity
Represent inbound transportation in business meetings
Attend transportation industry conferences on a normal cadence, representing the organization in a professional and influential manner
Organize and prioritize workload and tasks for associates to ensure proper flow of operational and tactical information in accordance with individual associate interests, aptitudes and skills
Ensure the proper level of communication and customer service response by the analyst team
Establish and report measureable individual and team goals
Motivate and inspire team members for optimal performance and execution, including coaching and discipline
Hire and train team members to a standard
Administer routine performance evaluations
Complete other various assignments, as required
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications - Summary of knowledge, experience and education required.
Bachelor’s degree with a major in business, logistics or finance is preferred; or equivalent work experience
Five to seven years of transportation experience
Experience in development of strategic operational logistics solutions
Minimum of three years direct associate management experience
Extensive knowledge of LTL, truckload and intermodal operations, third party dedicated fleet management, inbound routing optimization
Extensive computer skills, to include Excel, Word and Outlook, with the aptitude to learn new applications as needed
Extensive knowledge of transportation software applications and EDI transactions, both functionally and operationally
Ability to conceive, develop and implement new ideas, procedures and processes
Should exhibit initiative, dependability, ability to work with minimal direct supervision
Strong organizational, administrative, written and verbal skills
Ability to work will with people at different levels within and outside of the company
Must possess qualities of integrity, discretion and strong ethics
Ability to be successful in a changing environment and lead through the ambiguity of change
