A floor technician maintains hard floor and/or carpeted surface areas such that after these services, floors and/or carpeted areas will have a uniform shine, clean appearance and be free of scuffs, debris and spills. These services involve specific physical demands and the use of floor and carpet chemicals and other potential safety hazards. It is expected that all floor technicians follow all safety procedures and to the satisfaction of our customers, in compliance with contractual obligations and in compliance with Sparkle Maintenance, Inc. policies and procedures. Job and safety training is provided for this position. The scheduled shifts may vary in hours and the floor technician may be expected to provide these services at several locations. Pre-employment requirements are specific to each contract. Operates within a Quality Management System. All employees are trained on Quality Regulations.

DUTIES

  • Sweep/dust mop/wet mop non-carpeted areas.
  • Buff resilient tile floors.
  • Scrub/wax resilient tile floors.
  • Strip/wax resilient tile floors.
  • Grout Sealing.
  • Grout Brightening.
  • Scrub only resilient tile floors.
  • Upholstery cleaning of chairs.
  • Extraction of carpeted areas.
  • Bonnet, use scrubber or side by side and bonnets.
  • Buffer, use propane or electric.
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lift 50-75 lbs. (floor equipment, pails of chemicals, etc)
  • Climb stairs.
  • Stoop, bend, pivot, push, pull, kneeling, crouching, reach or stretch to access difficult to reach areas.
  • Handle equipment, tools, other material and items required to perform floor duties.
  • Operate floor machinery: Scrubber, Buffers, Extractors, etc.
  • Maneuver equipment and tools.
  • Handle industrial chemicals.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING REQUIREMENTS

  • Successfully clear a security background investigation.
  • Successfully clear a drug and alcohol urinalysis.
  • Cleared motor vehicle driver record.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year Floors experience
  • Knowledge of chemicals used to perform a strip and wax, scrub and refinish, scrub only, buff, carpet extract, upholster chairs, and carpet bonnet
  • Knowledge of equipment used and what job they are needed for; scrubber, extractor, buffer

BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE Previous floor technician experience WORK CONDITIONS Working conditions are fast pace in a commercial janitorial cleaning environment. The scheduled shift involves extended periods of standing/walking, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling cleaning equipment. The Floor Tech sometimes requires working in populated building that could be noisy and may be required to work both inside and outside of building.
