JOB DESCRIPTION - CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER (ATC) DEPARTMENT: EMORY SPORTS MEDICINE REPORTS TO: PRN OUTREACH MANAGER Position Summary: The PRN Outreach Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with coordination and delivery of high quality sports medicine services to all student-athletes. The athletic trainer must perform many of the outlined task with minimal or no supervision in the clinical setting. Problems encountered are of a moderate to higher level of complexity and a considerable amount of creativity, resourcefulness, and innovation are utilized in problem solving. Supervision Received: Overall supervision received by the Head Athletic Trainer, Emory Sports Medicine Outreach Program Supervisor. Job Functions and Responsibilities: Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to allow for suture or staple removal. Requires normal hearing and eyesight to allow for patient interaction and transfer of patient information from the patient to pen chart. Need to have the ability to handle high amounts of stress. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Licenses/Certifications BS degree required NATA certification required Current Basic Life Support/CPR Card Basic First Aid is desirable Experience and Skills Physical and Sensory Demands Good general health and stress coping ability. Full mobility and ability to participate in vigorous activity. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all constituents (patients, families, peers, and other healthcare team members) as needed for assessment, intervention, and professional development. Possess near vision acuity for accurate reading of equipment and recording on patient charts. Must be physically able to lift, support and move patients. Working Conditions OSHA Task Category One: There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues or a potential for spills or splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure. Physical Demand Capacity Levels Requires manual dexterity and general strength and endurance Lifting - routinely loads of 5-10 lbs. from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, shoulder to overhead Carrying - routinely loads of 5-10 lbs. for 40-50 feet Pushing - routinely loads of 5-150 lbs. on casters, runners, or pulleys Sustaining a grip - routinely for 1-2 minutes of 40-50 lbs Guarding a lift load - routinely of 120-140 lbs. Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids Used Therapeutic exercise and modality devices including but not limited to: electronic equipment, exercise equipment, hydrotherapy equipment, electrical lifts, ambulation devices, wheelchairs, stretchers, medical monitoring devices, computer, phone, and dictation equipment.
