The College of Health Solutions seeks a process-oriented and community-embedded Director of Community Placements to join the Student Success Hub. Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Success, the individual in this position oversees internships, experiential learning, and other community placement-related functions for the college. This position collaborates with a variety of college, university, and community partners to develop and administer experiential initiatives leading to increased retention, persistence, enrollment, and graduation outcomes for students in the College of Health Solutions.

Essential Duties

  • Plans, directs and reviews community placement activities and operations for the College of Health Solutions.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and directly supervises three coordinator seniors who work with internships, experiential learning, and clinical onboarding/academic affiliation agreements. Indirectly oversees three additional full-time staff coordinators and one student worker.
  • Determines and takes appropriate corrective action and discipline including termination.
  • Confers with university officials, directors, administrators and/or staff to make determinations for budget development, strategic planning, requests, and management analysis and accountability reports.
  • Conducts and assists with the development of long- and short-range goals for community partnerships and experiential learning.
  • Develops activities, services, and initiatives based on college and program learning objectives and enrollment goals.
  • Develops, maintains and implements college policies and procedures for student success with internships and experiential learning.
  • Liaises with health-related community partners to solicit new internship sites and expand student opportunities with industry and community organizations.
  • Uses knowledge of and experience in clinical education and health care agencies to guide and influence decision-making, effective reasoning, and judgement used in the selection, securing, and evaluation of internship sites and academic affiliation agreements.
  • Represents the community placements team and College of Health Solutions while serving on various committees and liaising with the Office of Clinical Partnerships, Career and Professional Development Services, Risk Management, General Counsel, and other university units.
  • Serves as representative of the University at state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils, and committees as assigned.
  • Supports the ongoing design, technological improvements, and evaluation of the community placements database and academic contract systems.
  • Collects and analyzes data and creates reports that inform future practices, strategies, and initiatives to improve student engagement, persistence, graduation, and placement rates.
  • Resolves problems and issues affecting the college and directs measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the community placements team.
  • Benchmarks best practices for clinical and health-related education placements, reviews the latest research on student experiential learning, and assesses current strategies to revise practices and incorporate emerging techniques and technologies.
  • Manages the design, development and coordination of projects related to community placements, experiential learning, and student success.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field AND six (6) years experience in one or more of the following: advising, recruitment/retention, other related student services in a college/university environment, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices related to health-related internships, clinical placements, and experiential learning.
  • Experience working with health care agencies, clinical education, or community health partners.
  • Experience planning, scheduling, and supervising the day-to-day operations and logistics for multiple team members.
  • Experience working with senior administrators and academic leadership to develop goals, establish priorities, create strategic plans, and resolve conflict.
  • Experience using Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and technology solutions for student success.
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication and attention to detail.
  • Experience in managing multiple largescale, complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
