Job Summary
This position is responsible for the activities of the Clinical Engineering Department in the delivery of biomedical equipment and services, cost mitigation strategies, campus Clinical Engineering performance, and overall program performance. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of equipment life cycle planning and forecasting and implementing capital planning projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a mechanical, electrical, biomedical or related field required, Masters' degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications: (None)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in medical and technical equipment operations and maintenance management; five (5) years in a management role
  • Knowledge of Imaging, Laboratory, and general biomedical equipment repairs and preventative maintenance standards
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and inspection agency requirements
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to supervise, direct, evaluates, and delegate work and responsibilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills required

Principal Accountabilities
  • Ensures Clinical Engineering is compliant with regulatory standards (CMS, TJC, CLIA, CAPP, etc.), through the documentation of current applicable codes, rules, standards, and regulations pertaining to electronic technical equipment including applicable diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
  • Lead medical equipment planning of capital construction projects, will evaluate requests for biomedical equipment; collaborate with leadership and staff with equipment RFPS and analysis; will be abreast of medical device hazard and recall notification programs.
  • Responsible for strategizing with peer group on equipment service strategies.
  • Provide leadership and project level management in planning, evaluating and implementing: proper equipment planning such as; selection based on technology, safety, risk, funding; room design and work/patient flow; technology forecasting and planning; re-purposing of equipment.
  • Provide detail results regarding equipment management, maintenance and safety to system leadership; this includes any EOC reporting, identification of safety recalls and alerts, performance and safety issues and potential safety concerns and hazards.
  • Responsible for technology trending as applicable in current healthcare environment.
  • Assures financial objectives are met.
  • Prepares and submits budget and related reports and presents to key stakeholders; forecasts and accurately projects expenses; takes corrective action to address negative variances; identifies and proposes capital budget items appropriately.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
