Opportunity at a GlanceRoss University School of Medicine (RUSM), one of the largest accredited medical schools training physicians in North America, is seeking a part-time remote physician skilled clinical educator to serve as Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) in the Office of Clinical Sciences. The Chairperson provides guidance and oversight of an aligned, integrated, and uniform educational experience in OB/GYN for medical students across 23 of clinical sites. The Chairperson is the senior academic and administrative officer for clinical faculty in OB/GYN distributed among 23 sites throughout the United States.

This is a part time position, up to .50 FTE. The Chair of a medical specialty is the chief academic and administrative officer for the clinical faculty of that specialty throughout all training sites. The Chair is responsible for ensuring academic excellence in the assigned discipline, and reports to the Associate Dean of Clinical Sciences. She/He oversees activities related to the discipline as well as the integration of the discipline with the other sciences. The Chair provides guidance and oversight of a well- integrated medical program in the specialty across affiliates. The Chair supervises the assistant Chair of OBGYN in the department, and the associated Clerkship Directors at the clinical sites, to ensure assessment of clinical competency of students within the area of specialty and to serve as a respected representative of RUSM at meetings and conferences. The Chair works closely with the Associate Dean of Clinical Sciences and all other clinical chairs, to ensure a consistent educational experience throughout the clinical training years.Responsibilities

  • Participates in the review and approval of any changes to the department’s program
  • Works closely with the site’s clerkship directors and the Directors of Medical Education to assure adherence to curricular expectations.
  • Utilizes the RUSM Clinical Site Visit report guidelines, provides timely summary reports and makes recommendations based on-site visits. The Chair provides feedback and recommendations to correct deficiencies and iteratively assesses improvements in said deficiencies.
  • Ensures the academic department is in compliance with current developments in the field of medicine as they will be reflected in the USMLE Step 2 examinations
  • Serves on appropriate bodies to ensure accreditations requirements are met.
  • Identifies and recommends faculty at affiliated sites for appointment and promotion.
  • Establishes and updates the RUSM Clinical Curriculum consistent with the discipline, LCME and other accreditation standards
  • Supports the implementation of policies and procedures to enhance the educational program.
  • Participates on RUSM committees such as Faculty Appointment and Promotions Committee, and Curriculum Committee. Additional participation in adhoc committees is expected as related to the Chair’s responsibilities and/or disciplines.
  • Participates in program evaluations and assessments to assure appropriate outcomes are achieved for the specialty.
  • In coordination with the Directors of Academy for Teaching and Learning and Clinical Academy for Teaching and Learning, or Associate Dean of Academic Learning Environment and Accreditation, the Assistant Dean for Clinical Faculty Affairs, and other senior leadership, assists in the development and rollout of training and development programs and faculty orientation. Assesses the impact of faculty development on academic personnel.
  • Remains current on developments in the field, research, and best practices. Researches emerging industry trends, new technologies, concepts and techniques and works with the appropriate personnel to integrate these items into the department goals.
  • Promotes the use of educational technological tools to enhance learning.
  • Serves as a mentor for the professional development of RUSM students and colleagues.
  • Completes other projects and duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

The minimum requirements for the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position are listed below.   • M.D./D.O. or equivalent terminal medical degree from an accredited US, Canadian, or UK school of medicine
  • Active license to practice medicine in the US
  • Minimum of five years of experience teaching at a post-secondary level
  • Eligible for rank of Associate Professor or Professor in accordance with RUSM Faculty Appointment and Promotion Guidelines
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in medical administration within a hospital, clinic, medical school, clinical practice, or health setting
  • Experience advising students for the NRMP match preferred
  • Knowledge of post-secondary academic models
  • Knowledge of medical advancements in the specialty
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards
  • Knowledge of negotiation and mediation
  • Working knowledge of current e-tools available in education
  • Must be able to meet domestic and international requirements for travel to and from the United States
