Assistant/Associate Controller Details

Manhattan College - Riverdale, NY

Employment Type : Full-Time

The Assistant/Associate Controller’s primary responsibilities are the financial reporting of the College, review of the daily work completed by others within the Controller’s Office department and assisting the Controller.

Responsibilities:

  • Review of the general ledger.
  • Oversees accounting staff of the Controller’s Office.
  • Power user of the College’s finance software system (Banner) and provides system support for any implementation that affects Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Finance or Payroll.
  • Oversees financial reporting process including account analysis and reconciliation.
  • Works with departments to facilitate compliance with policies/procedures and manages accuracy and timeliness of information.
  • Oversees and participates in the preparation, review, and analysis of the College’s annual financial statements and facilitation of the annual external audits.
  • Oversees the completion of the periodical surveys specific to Higher Education.

Oversees and participates in completing the annual tax returns, Form 990 & Unclaimed Funds.

  • Assist with implementing and maintaining of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Assist with the overall management of the Controller’s Office.
  • Maintain the Finance committee minutes.
  • Review cash flow\balance reporting and approval of account transfers and wires.
  • Review and approve postings to the fringe benefit accounts.


    Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word

Excellent organizational skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Team player and builder

Qualifications Preferred:

MBA and or CPA

Experience with Banner

Experience in Higher Education

Previous supervisory experience
