Position Description

The primary function of this position is to oversee the day-to-day business operations and finance needs for SPH Advancement including tracking the fundraising progress, department and campaign expenditures and other ad hoc project budgets. They focus on high-level prospect and constituent relations on behalf of the Associate Dean and are the primarily administrative liaison to the volunteer boards.

They organize and execute large internal and external meetings and events for alumni, donors, prospects and University leadership; and assist in the planning and implementation of all cultivation and stewardship activities. This position works with high-level donors and volunteers when coordinating the School’s foundation board, advisory council and alumni board meetings and activities.

They will serve on the Advancement leadership team; engage with the Associate Dean and other School leaders in discussions/decisions related to the overall direction of Advancement activities in the School.

They will be a consummate trouble-shooter for operational and customer service-related functions and issues.



Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

This position works with highly confidential information and high-level donors to the School of Public Health. The individual in this position must possess a high degree of discretion. The individual must be well-organized and detail-oriented.

Instructions Provided to Employee:
Instruction is provided to the employee through annual employee performance review work plan, weekly or bi weekly meetings with the director, in person, by phone, by memos, and by email. Additionally, this position will seek further instruction from other colleagues as needed.

Dynamics of Work:
This position must be able to perform well under pressure to meet deadlines and constantly changing priorities. Excellent time-management skills are required.

Supervision Received by Employee:
This employee is generally self-directed and is expected to seek direction as needed. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Advancement.



Preferred Qualifications

Business Administration: This position must have a thorough understanding of processes and procedures and the ability to interpret and apply them in a variety of situations. This position must have the ability to stay current with changing priorities and adjust business operations and practices accordingly.

Financial Management: This position must have the ability to produce financial reports encompassing a variety of funding sources. The position is responsible for monitoring budget activity, projecting budget outcomes, modifying and balancing the budget to ensure fiscal stability of the department. This position advises the Associate Dean on financial activity and projects budget needs based on office and capital campaign needs and priorities.

Human Resources Management: This position is responsible for the hiring process of student assistants and SHRA staff. The position should have the ability to participate in all aspects of supervision within a university setting, including developing and implementing work plans, conducting performance reviews, providing on-the-job training, promoting and facilitating continuing education opportunities for all office employees.

Information Analysis and Decision-Making: This position serves as the point of contact for policies and procedures, researching and interpreting information from a variety of sources as necessary. This position analyzes unprecedented issues and creatively resolves them while remaining compliant within state, university and school regulations. This position must have excellent analytical, interpreting, and listening skills

Communication: This position communicates frequently with senior level administrators and high-level donors and alumni of the School and deals with a variety of complex issues. This position must be able to communicate clearly and concisely to various audiences in various ways. Financial reports must translate information clearly and concisely.
