The Activity Center is the small office on the mountain that everyone loves to visit. The ideal candidate is a people person who loves the mountain, but also loves the warmth and comfort of staying inside to work. In this office, youll find yourself telling folks about where the best snow is hiding or which outlet is playing the big game on their tv that afternoon.

The Activity Center exists to help link together many of the Schweitzer outlets and all the fun things there are to do on the mountain. Each day, a staff member is responsible for opening the office up and making sure everything is in its place. As you open your doors, youll many times be greeted by some hotel guests eager to get their lift tickets and organize their day. As the morning moves on, youll chat up many guests heading to breakfast and will help to meet the needs that they didnt even know they had like telling them about our amazing Kids Night Out program so that they can have an adult dinner date.

Throughout the day, Activity Center staff assist guests in purchasing tickets for tubing, help guests with shuttle schedules, book snowshoe hikes, and assist employees with some of their needs as well. We have lots of families, and lot of kids visit us looking for something to do for just a while and the Activity Staff is right there to make sure nobody is ever bored.

JOB TITLE/DEPARTMENT: Activity Center Desk Staff

POSITION TYPE: Seasonal, includes weekends and holidays

WAGE: $14/hour

SUPERVISORY: No

SUPERVISED BY: Activities Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY: Provide quality guest service via extensive knowledge of Schweitzer Mountain and the local area. Provide information about activities for guests at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. Staff will work in the Activity Center on a regular basis answering phones and emails and providing customer service.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be available weekends and holidays

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Will contribute to the overall vision, direction and implementation of the Schweitzer Activity Center and its programs by performing the following:

    • Present a welcoming face for new and returning guests.
    • Assist guests in planning their day.
    • Host the Activity Center, greet guests, answer guest questions, and providing information to prospective and current guests
    • Understand and promote Schweitzer owned business, concessions ,and mountain retailers for the sales of their activities/products
    • Actively market activities and events on and off the mountain to guests, potential guests and groups.
    • Financially accountable for sales and billing functions of the Activity Center.
    • May assist with outdoor activities including tubing, snowshoe hike, and village games.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Responsible for up to 8 hours of sedentary per shift and some combined walking/standing activity. Will lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds rarely. Will bend, squat, kneel, climb, spin, dance, twist and reach above shoulder level occasionally to frequently. 100% inside and some potential outside worksite, exposed to all moisture levels and temperature changes. Hazards are ice and snow. Hearing, speech, sight and walking are required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

SKILLS: Excellent people/relationship building skills. Detailed, accurate, organized. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Computer skills with Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of the mountain and skiing/riding preferred.

ATTRIBUTES: Positive attitude, patient, confident, has initiative, and enjoys inside desk work.

EDUCATION: Some college preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Customer service experience preferred. Resort experience preferred. Winter Sports enthusiast and knowledge of mountain environment preferred.

LICENSE: None

UNIFORM: Will wear company uniform but will provide own pants to meet dress standards.

APPEARANCE STANDARDS: Schweitzer Mountain upholds the following appearance standards:

  • Jewelry must be kept to a minimum. Jewelry in visible piercings are limited to:
    • In the facial area (eyebrow or side nostril) which is either a stud or a ring no larger than ½ inch. No rings in noses, pleasestuds are acceptable.
    • Only studs or rings smaller than ½ inch can be used on the upper ear. Large hoops or gauges on the lower ear may present a safety issue.
    • If you have piercings in your mouth/lips/cheeks etc. you will be asked to use a clear nylon stud or other low-visibility item while you are on-duty.
  • Tattoos: At no time can tattoos that may offend guests or co-workers be visible.
  • Cosmetics and perfume/cologne should be kept to a minimum
  • Hair should be worn so as not to cover eyes or facial features. Facial hair must be kept clean. Please do not start a new beard during the season. Good personal hygiene should be practiced.

MACHINES, PROGRAMS AND TOOLS OPERATED: Computer; Microsoft Windows and Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point; Sirius Sales System.
